Of rolling mists and merry brooks -Irpu Falls

A REFRESHING GETAWAY!

If ever there is a good time to visit Coorg, then surely it is during the monsoons when it appears as if a magic wand has swept across the entire area and made it green. The rolling mists impart an aura of romanticism.

One of the major attractions in the area is Iruppu Falls, situated about 18 km from the Nagarhole National park. The journey to Iruppu is a delight, since you get to pass through coffee estates and curving roads. A kilometre away, you’ll have to get down from your vehicles and travel on foot.


Before proceeding, you will have to purchase reasonably-priced tickets (Rs 10/- each). During our journey, it had begun to rain and we did not mind it in the least. The walk up to the falls was in itself a sublime experience as we crossed merrily gurgling brooks and tall trees which looked upon us kindly, as we gazed at them in wonder and awe.
And finally, the piece de resistance– the Iruppu Falls. A huge white blanket of water, fed by the rains no doubt, thundered down in a zig zag manner.

Actually, it is the Lakshman Teertha river which takes birth here and thunders down into the valley to meet another river Ramateertha and in the final course meets the river Kapila. A trekkers delight, the Brahmagiri Hills surround the place.
